+ I thought the narrators did well and I liked that there were two different voices for the different POVs.

+ I enjoyed the world building once more and it doesn’t only take place in New Orleans this time. In the beginning, the story takes place in Europe. So I like that there were different locations but then it goes back to New Orleans which is a great place for an urban fantasy to take place because it is dark and mystery. This time witches are introduced into the story which I enjoyed.

+ Cate and Lachlan’s relationship grows and this time their spicy scenes aren’t so closed door, which was fun! This is a fated mates kind of love story and I do enjoy them as a couple.

+ I enjoy a lot of the secondary characters like Ciara, Lachlan’s sister. But why does Cate’s brother always get into trouble? He is so frustrating.

~ I felt like the pacing was an issue but I don’t know if it’s because I was listening to the story instead of reading it? There was a lot of action and excitement and the beginning and the end. The middle feels like nothing much is happening except Cate and Lachlan’s relationship and the investigation into murders around the city. But I think it felt slow because that’s the mystery part of the story?

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I think this was a solid sequel but I did enjoy book one a little bit more. Once again, there is a twist at the end of this story but I’m not sure if I will continue the series. But again, it might be because I listened to it (and I don’t love audiobooks but I’m trying to get used to them) than read it that I feel this way so when book three comes out, maybe I will read it instead.

+ I read Phantasma and enjoyed it but didn’t quite love the ending. But Enchantra was fun from beginning to end.

+ Genevieve is someone we meet in Phantasma and compared to her sister, Ophelia, she was definitely the more stubborn one. She brings that attitude here to Enchantra. She’s trying to find out more about her family’s past and opens an invitation addressed to her mom, who has passed away. On a trip to Italy she decides to go to Enchantra and gets trapped there. But that doesn’t stop her from being difficult.

+ Rowin is a Wraith and he and his family is cursed to play a deadly game at Enchantra for entertainment but also to gain immunity from living in Hell. Genevieve’s presence messes with his plans and convinces her the only way to keep her alive is for them to marry right away and enter the games as a couple. I loved Rowin – he was patient enough with Vivi, but also didn’t back down from her. And I love how he cared about his family.

+ The romance between Vivi and Rowin was filled with arguments, but moments of getting to know each other as they hid from Rowin’s blood thirsty siblings. Yes these games happen in a span of like a week but I think they go through a lot, plus the desire is there between them with some spicy scenes thrown in. But I love how the story ends – how they decide what to sacrifice and how they fall in love.

+ One of my favorite things about this book is Rowin’s family, The Silvers. He has a lot of siblings with very different personalities and powers. They were a rowdy, lethal, funny bunch that kept me very interested in the story. It also gave Vivi a found family. Also I liked the games in this book compared to the one in Phantasma. In Enchantra it was like a very deadly hide-and-seek!

~ Sometimes Vivi was TOO stubborn. Like girl, pay attention, Rowin is trying to keep you from dying. But all she wants to do is fight everything and everyone.

Final Thoughts:

I liked this one better than Phantasm and the introduction of Rowin’s family makes me think we are going to get a few books about these very interesting siblings of his! I enjoyed the games, the Silver family, the romance and spice between Rowin and Vivi (even though she could be super stubborn). I look forward to reading more books from this world!

+ I loved The Last Bloodcarver and with the way it ended I knew I had to read book two. It picks up right after the events of book one which was pretty devastating. Nhika gave her life for Kochin and now he is trying to save her too but it looks like an impossible mission.

+ Kochin has changed after the events of book one and now with losing Nhika he feels like a madman who’s grieving her and yet not able to let go. He goes to war just to see if he can find a way to bring her back to life. He loves her so much and I felt heartbroken for him.

+ This does a happy ending but I was worried for a moment. I love when Kochin reunites with Nhika – they belong together and I just love their relationship so much.

~ There is war breaking out in Theumas and it’s where Kochin believes he has to go to find the answers to bring Nhika back to life but this is told in flashbacks and I didn’t love that, mostly because I don’t usually love flashback in most books. It got a little confusing until the story came together later on in the book.

Final Thoughts:

Overall this was a solid conclusion to this duology and I really enjoy how unique this story is with the heartsoothing. I love that we get to see Kochin’s journey through grief and madness until he is reunited with Nhika. I love them together. I didn’t love the flashbacks but I was satisfied with the ending. I look forward to reading more from this author!

This was one of the most hyped books in the past few weeks and I fell into the hype and bought the book not knowing it would have been available on kindle unlimited anyway! So I read it on KU because it was easier for me and I put the book trophy on my shelf – it’s a gorgeous book.

+ I really enjoyed the world-building in this story. It’s a world of different kingdoms and there is some politics going on. This world is dangerous with wild creatures always being fought off and a migration of crux (deadly winged beasts) about to take place. There is magic, a lot of secrets and mystery in this story. There is also a mysterious illness affecting the wild animals, so Odessa is trying to help investigate that.

+ Princess Odessa Cross is the eldest child of the King of Quentis and always blending in the background and hiding. It’s her sister who was trained to be Queen and Odessa basically accepts this fate until fate is changed for her by the Prince of Turah who demands to marry her instead of her sister. Odessa is not trained in kingdom politics, or swordplay – her sister was trained to be a spy, not Odessa. She’s flawed, she asks lots of questions but she is not spy material or an assassin at that, but she tries hard and she’s a good person. I think there was a lot of growth for her in this first book.

+ The Guardian has a reputation and Odessa spends more time with him than her actual husband. So it’s not a surprise that an attraction grows between them. He is a protector, he is fierce and menacing and always drenched in blood after killing these beasts that have been attacking the kingdom of late. Odessa finds him irritating until he grows on her. But he trains her to fight, and he’s more than patient with her I’d say. This is a slow burn romance with hardly any spice. But I did love the romance once it got going and some of the secrets and truths are revealed.

~ This is a long book and it does move slowly because it is focused on world-building. But even with the world-building and learning about the different creatures that are terrorizing towns, some things were still left a mystery and will probably be more explained in book two. Things pick up in the second half of the book and the ending finishes with a lot of action. It leaves us with more questions for the sequel.

~ The romance was too much of a slow burn for me. I thought the romance was lovely but I still wanted some of the secrets to be revealed earlier because I could figure out what it was. Odessa spent a lot of time telling the Guardian, Ransom, how much she hated him. It got repetitive and I just wanted her to move on from that because he really wasn’t hateful. That man was keeping her alive!

~ Another thing about Odessa, she was thrown into this role of Shield of Sparrow without any training but wow was she bad at trying to find out information for her dad. And the way that everyone basically betrayed her made me wonder what good is all her questioning (she asks a lot of questions) if she can’t discern who to trust? Is she asking the right questions? She did grow up a princess and maybe not the favored one but I expected her to have some grasp of court politics or be wary of who to trust?

Final Thoughts:

I read this in a cloud of hype and I should have waited to get a better idea of this book without the hype. But after processing my thoughts though, I felt like this book moved too slow for me. I did like the world building – I like the monsters, the magic, the mystery of the disease in the animals, learning the characters and the politics. I even enjoyed the romance, once there was romance – it was too much of a slow burn for me. The second half of this book moved quicker and the ending was filled with action. I did enjoy it and I look forward to reading book two because of all the questions I was left with.

+ This is book #5 of the Kings of Sin series and I didn’t love the last two books. #4 was better than #3 but still I went into this one cautiously and I think this one was slight better than the last one at least when it came to the characters.

+ Ayana is a supermodel and about to marry someone she doesn’t love, but she’s friends with, Jordan. Jordan’s best-friend, Vuk, wants Ayana. So there is that complication which kind of gets solved at the wedding ceremony. I will say the romance between Ayana and Vuk was good. Vuk is all yearning and Ayana is looking at him in a new light when she gets to spend more time with him. Vuk doesn’t speak much, he mostly uses sign-language but when he does speak…it’s with Ayana which I thought was sweet. It’s clear Vuk was always in love with her so seeing them get together was my favorite part of this book.

+ This one is a slow burn, because Ayana is engaged to Jordan. But once she and Vuk give into one another’s attraction, it gets spicy.

~ Though I love Ayana and Vuk’s romance, this story is too long. It’s at 530 pages and really could have been 350 pages or no more than 400. None of the Brotherhood (organized crime) storyline kept my interest. It added a lot of violence and action but still, I was just okay about it and skimmed.

Final Thoughts:

If you like Beauty and the Beast vibes, you will enjoy this book. I did like it better than her last 2 books in this series but I do think it could have been shorter – it didn’t need to be over 500 pages long. I still think King of Wrath is my favorite book from this series, but I did love Ayana and Vuk as a couple in King of Envy.

+ I hate to admit I was highly influenced to buy this book because of tiktok 😅. I heard nothing about it until everyone started praising it on tiktok and then I was like oh a dystopian? I haven’t read one in awhile so I bought it on release day. I had very high expectations because of hype and honestly I should have read it after the hype went down a little. Totally my fault! But I did read it in one day.

+ Nostalgia has me loving the parts of this story that was dystopian. There are warring sides, the government versus the rebels – I still don’t know who the good guys are since they both have committed crimes. A military academy program to become Silver Block or Silver Elite (top special ops) and a young woman named Wren who is forced into the program even though she is secretly the enemy. It’s either that or be put into the labor camps. There is even a found family element I enjoyed as Wren goes through this program, she makes friends but also makes some enemies.

+ The romance is insta-lust between Wren and her commanding officer, Cross, who is hot but also the evil General’s son. She tries to fight her attraction to him but she doesn’t put up much of a fight. They want each other and get together to scratch the itch until later in the story things change a little. There is spice but I didn’t feel like it was overboard. It’s an enemies to lovers and a forbidden romance situation.

+ Wren going through the program is what takes up most of the story. She partakes in tests, has classes, makes friends and enemies and hooks up with Cross. But because she is Modified, she doesn’t want to actually be a Silver Elite, so she goes undercover for the rebellion. It’s a tight rope she’s walking as she falls for Cross but she also has to remember that her parents were part of the rebellion, so where does she belong? It will be interesting to see what happens next.

~ Some issues I had with the book: this is being compared to an adult Hunger Games – it is not like Hunger Games except for the government fighting with the rebellion. This is it’s own dystopian world and story and it’s pretty light on the world-building so far. Is it predictable? Yes. But it’s easy to read, it’s on those stories that you can binge.

~ There were times I felt Wren moved on so easily. There are a few deaths in this book and I feel like how she and everyone else casually moved on after one of them didn’t sit right with me. I wanted more emotion.

~ The insta-lust relationship lacked emotional connection. I’m all for a young woman getting it on with her hot commanding officer, but I wanted the romance and emotional connection too. It gets better at the end but I still had moments where I was wondering if Wren was going to maybe make a better connection with her new academy friend, Kaine. Of course there is more to Cross and maybe book two will explore him more, but I also want to know more about Kaine.

Final Thoughts:

So it didn’t meet my high expectations – by the end I was feeling it was a 3.5 star book but I did read it in one night so I bumped it to 4. I found it entertaining but it was more romantasy or should I say romantopian 😅? The romance is insta-lust but it does grow into more by the end of the book. The story is predictable but I did like the whole premise of people being modified and having different powers and the politics are definitely going to get complicated for Wren so I’d like to see how she handles that and everything else in book two.

+ I randomly picked this off of Kindle Unlimited because of the cover, and the synopsis. And I devoured it in one night! 😳 It’s a dark academia, new adult story that includes an atmospheric setting in Scotland at a place called Sorrowsong University where the students are divided into four houses and the students that attend are the rich of the rich. There are even kids from Mafia families there. Ophelia is there for revenge but then she meets Alex Corbeau-Green and her world is changed.

+ The setting is in Scotland and it’s dreary, cold, wet and the buildings are drafty, old, and barely has a wifi signal. But it lends to the mystery that takes place in the story. Ophelia is trying to figure out who caused the event that killed her parents and that’s why she’s at the school. She has a suspect in mind but after someone starts stalking her at school she has to go back to the drawing board and find more evidence.

+ Ophelia is alone after her parents death and she craves attention and affection but she doesn’t know how to make friends, or how to allow people to be close to her. She definitely doesn’t fit in with the rich kids but I like that she doesn’t let that stop her from talking to kids. She is determined to find more evidence about her parents death and I did feel for her – she’s so alone.

+ Now let me talk about Alex. Alex was a major red flag when they met, too hot, tatted, rich, friends with the Mafia kids, he smokes and then we find out he has like 6 sisters and a mom with mental health issues and he takes care of them the best he can from overseas?! Oh and he plays rugby. The more the story went on and he interacts with his sisters, and you can see how loyal he is to his friends and then how he’s trying not to fall for Ophelia but he’s always there taking care of her. I fell for him – I can see why Ophelia fell too even though she tried to stay away from him. Book boyfriend alert!

+The banter between Ophelia and Alex is so good. At one point they were flirting with emails and crossword references (because she loves crossword puzzles!) – swoon! I can’t get enough of them! And it’s a slow burn, they don’t really do anything until later – they start off as enemies and even when they turn into lovers I didn’t feel it was too graphic. And their spicy scenes were fade to black. I thought their romance was beautiful with both of them being vulnerable and opening up to one another (at least Alex did).

~ The book was predictable – I could tell who instigated Ophelia’s parents death pretty quick but I still enjoyed getting from the beginning to the end of the book. The end leaves our lovers in some heartbreaking drama but I know when they fix it in book two, it’s going to be epic or I hope it will. There is also another twist at the end which I thought was good.

~ Ophelia was not the best investigator for this murder mystery. She got caught several times trying to find evidence and she’s not one to really ask for help since she is a lonely girl – who does she really know and trust? She did make some friends but we’ll see what happens after that ending.

Final Thoughts:

I’m going to say all the stars for this book I’m giving to Alex (and all his yearning) and his patience with all the females in his life 🥺, the enemies to lovers romance and the BANTER that was taking place in this story. I was eating it all up. Yes, the story was predictable but I enjoyed it anyway and need to know when book two is coming out!

+ This is Ahnna’s story. She is the sister of Aren, the King of Ithicana and Lara’s husband. So I was really interested to see what happens to her as she is traveling to Harendell to fulfill the marriage treaty that was set up when she was younger.

+ Ahnna is thrown into a dangerous situation and all around her is political intrigue. The Harendell court seems civil, even reminding me of the British monarchy in a sense with their propriety and rules, but underneath their mask they are vultures – there is always someone playing a game and Ahnna is in over her head.

+ I think the second half of the book was much better and moved quicker with action and so many twists and turns. Who is playing who? When it is revealed, it’s a bombshell. The ending is a cliffhanger.

~ I didn’t like Ahnna in this book because I knew her to be so fierce in the other books but in this one she came off so naive and weak. What happened to her character? I get that she feels guilt but she was making so many missteps I was hoping she would go home like everyone was telling her to do. She is so stubborn. I hope there is some growth in the next book.

~ I hated the Harendell court – clearly they didn’t care for Ahnna yet she insisted she could make this marriage work and sent every one of her people away. I questioned her decisions a lot. I just found it boring – the people, how they functioned, prim and proper yet vicious. For me it made the forbidden romance part lackluster. It was too slow of a slow burn because James is so proper and so loyal to his family. Why did James do a great job of staying away from her? 😑. I didn’t like him, which I was bummed about. There was yearning, but like I said, they weren’t together much.

~ The political intrigue is about a trade war and reminded me of our very realistic trade war taking place in the real world. Was it sometimes fascinating (at the end) – sure? But for the whole of the story, I wasn’t fully into it. There was a lull in the middle and it took me a few days to finally finish this book. I think the story could have been shorter.

Final Thoughts:

This is not my favorite in the series but the ending of the book was amazing. There wasn’t much romance, and I kind of don’t love Ahnna and James together. Or I just don’t like James? I’m not sure yet, I definitely do not like Harendell. Maybe I will have to make my verdict after the next book. .

Content Warning:

+ One woman, Rylee Gray, is chosen by one of the four Lumathyst princes, to go through a trial and see if she can survive turning immortal. Though this had more smut than plot, I did appreciate that Rylee did face some challenges on her journey to becoming the chosen one.

+ If you like smut, this one has a lot of it. It’s a “why choose” trope or basically reverse harem. There is one of her and four of them and Rylee enjoyed ALL of them. Literally. Sometimes two at the same time. So smut lovers this one is for you!

+ I did like the twist at the end. Throughout this story Rylee is sort of looking for her lost sister. I say sort of because it’s the princes who are supposedly looking for intel on her. There is more information about her at the end of the story.

~ I think Rylee spent the most time with Kal, who became my favorite only because she took time bonding with him and I felt out of all the guys – the romance between them is genuine. All the other guys were rushed. I think her favorite is Jax, but though there was tension between them from beginning to end, her moments with him (and the others) were rushed.

~ This was heavy on the spicy scenes and I thought the world-building was too light. Also she’s going through a trial with each prince to see if at the end she is “the one”. She’s with them for a mont but she fell for each prince fairly quick and there were no challenges there except for Jax and his dad, who constantly gave her problems. I mean I’m glad they all love to share her and she loves to be shared – but I wanted a bit more depth with the story.

~ I didn’t really connect to Rylee, i just wanted more from her character but I did think Mirren was a fun character. Would have liked to know Rylee’s friends bit better too.

Final Thoughts:

Even though this was more smut than plot, I read it fairly quick just because I wanted to see the difference in the princes and how she interacted with them. Unfortunately she didn’t spend lots of time with them equally – which is why I like Kal the best but I feel like that wasn’t fair to the other guys. I would have loved more world-building, more time with each prince and more from Rylee’s character. If you like spicy, reverse harem romances without heavy world building, then you will enjoy this one.

+ The beginning of this book caught my attention fast because Aster and her family are pirates! And right away they are embroiled in a fight at sea – it’s violent, bloody and things don’t turn out the way Aster thought it would, dashing her hopes and dreams.

+ Aster is young and isn’t afraid to fight for her family. I love how resilient she is even through whatever she is going through physically and mentally. There are other characters in this story like Will and Captain Shade that make the story very interesting also. I also loved the side characters of her family and Will’s family members.

+ There is a lot of political intrigue going on and I thought the twists and turns were entertaining. There is a clear side of good versus evil but I wonder where that leaves Aster and her knew knowledge of what she is and her powers. It will be interesting to see where the story goes. I thought the world building was great.

+ The romance is not the focus of this book, but I thought Aster and Will’s growing attachment was sweet although he’s keeping a lot of secrets. It’s definitely a forbidden romance with will being a Nightweaver and Aster being a human but again, it will be interesting to see what happens in book two.

~ I wanted more piracy because the first chapter where the pirates are the focus is so fun! It’s been awhile since I read a pirate book and it was nice to have it in this story! I think there is a tiny bit of a lull (not enough to stop me from reading – took me 2 days to read this one) in the middle of the book because Aster and her family is on land and not at sea. Also Will is supposed to be helping her find the Sylk that killed her brother but through out the “helping” all they are doing is spending time together. There was no hunting the Sylk involved.

~ Please don’t be a love triangle – PLEASE because I like both guys. Which is the worst.

Final Thoughts:

I enjoyed this one a lot minus the few issues I had which doesn’t make me less eager for book two any less. I was entertained! It’s got pirates, magic, political intrigue, romance and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
