Weekly Wrap Up | 11/9/25

Aloha friends!

Another week is over and here’s what happened:

+ It was my birthday week and all I wanted was a good election day (there was no election here in Hawaii) and wow, the results all over the country made my heart so happy so that was the best birthday gift ever.

+ But the government is still shutdown and my hubby has missed 2 paychecks…going on 3. We are dipping into savings – but I cannot believe this admin is saying no to jobs, no to feeding people, no to affordable healthcare but yes to building a ballroom? I cannot wait for midterms!

+ It’s a four day weekend for my kids and my hubby too. We’re gonna go have a belated birthday lunch or dinner for me.

Shows/Movies/Music I Watched/Listened To:

  • Football
  • Wicked: One Wonderful Night
  • Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2025 – was only watching to see what Olivia Rodrigo would perform and wow Salt-N-Pepa got inducted in!!! Talk about bringing me back to my childhood – I grew up on their music. Their performance was so good! Olivia did amazing – I love the White Stripes. Twenty-One Pilots did amazing too! And OutKast getting inducted was awesome too – the music of my 20’s, I loved it! The Soundgarden tribute was amazing too – I still remembering being devastated when I heard Chris Cornell passed, Black Hole Sun was one of my favorite songs. The show was way too long and I was streaming it on youtube since we cancelled Disney+ – I wanted to see Cyndi Lauper – the music of my early childhood, of course lol but I had to do other things.

Music – Lux – Rosalia – I transcended when I listened to this!!! I LOVE IT. It’s definitely the kind of music that cleanses my music palate. I needed this. I even cried to Mio Cristo Piange Diamanti. I haven’t cried to music in forever….I grew up Catholic and I’ve had such a challenging relationship with it (mostly when I was young) and I’m at peace with it now, but it took so much growing. But one thing I always miss about going to mass…the music. Anyway, this album….does something to my soul. It’s on repeat!

Dunno if UMG will remove this video like it did with the last one but whatever…I love all the songs on the album, I can’t pick one right now! She sings in a few different languages on this album which is so AMAZING. I can’t understand any of the foreign languages, I know very little Spanish even though I took it in college but it was easier to practice in college because I went to school in Los Angeles and my Latina friends exposed me to so much music!! So I might have understood more back then but not now and it’s okay because this album makes me feel without having to understand what is being said.

How was your week? Did you get a lot done? Watch anything good? Read any amazing books or books you didn’t finish? What are you reading?…Leave me a comment below!

Let’s Talk Bookish:  Reading Non-Fiction | 11/7/25

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly bookish meme originally created by Rukky @ Eternity Books and hosted by Aria @ Book Nook Bits, where every Friday, bloggers write discussion posts based on a weekly prompt and Dini @ dinipandareads has cohosted since the beginning of 2025.

This week’s topic is:

November 7: Reading Non-Fiction

Prompts: Happy Non-Fiction November! Do you read non-fiction? If you do read it, what do you love about it? What are your favourite categories to read about (i.e. true crime, historical, memoirs, self-help), and what are some of your favourite non-fiction books? Do you have any tips for those who want to get into reading more non-fiction? If you don’t read non-fiction, what don’t you like about it? Do you think that will change (or has it already changed) over the years?

**********

Do you read non-fiction? If you do read it, what do you love about it?

I very seldom read non-fiction, but when I do it’s because I want information – I want “the tea” so to speak. 😅

What are your favourite categories to read about (i.e. true crime, historical, memoirs, self-help), and what are some of your favourite non-fiction books?

I don’t think I’ve read true crime non-fiction (but give me a documentary on tv and I will eat it up!). If I do read non-fiction it will be memoirs.

Do you have any tips for those who want to get into reading more non-fiction?

Unfortunately, I don’t read enough of it to give tips about how to get into reading it but I think reading a memoir is a good start.

November 14: Are “Special Editions” still special?

Prompts: With the amount of ‘special’, ‘limited’, or ‘collectors’ editions that have saturated the market (including special limited ARCs), do you still consider special editions to be special? Do you buy special editions? If so, what makes you want to buy one  (i.e. sprayed edges, foiling, character art, etc.)? Give us the tea— what books do you think have too many special editions, and what books do you wish had more (or even one!) special editions?

November 21:  End-of-Year Reading Goals?

Prompts: What books do you want to read before the end of the year? Are there any new releases you’re still looking forward to? What goals did you set at the beginning of the year? Have you changed or added to those goals?

November 28: Bookish Etiquette (Laurie @ Laurie Is Reading)

Prompts: There’s always a lot of bookish discourse ongoing on social media. People talk about selling ARCs (Advanced Reader Copies), tagging authors and publishers in reviews, only posting positive reviews— we’ve seen it all! Do you think there’s something such as “bookish etiquette”? Why or why not? What do you think are some dos and don’ts as readers and/or reviewers? Do you agree with all the discourse, or do you stay far away from all the drama?

WWW Wednesday | 11/5/25

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam over on Taking on a World of Words.

The idea is pretty simple, every week you dedicate a post to the three W’s:

What are you currently reading?

What have you just finished reading?

What are you going to read next?

We are in November and I only have one arc to finish for this month since I finished most of them in October. So I will be starting on my December arcs and maybe January ones too since my month is wide open! I’m also excited to read some non-arc books! I downloaded a few from Kindle Unlimited, so we’ll see how those go.

Also, I’ve come so far in my audiobook listening journey. I used to hate it – only could get through 2 a year, sometimes only 1. I thought it was too slow, sometimes the voices I just couldn’t vibe with. But now that I know I can speed it up faster than 2X (yes it took me 2 years before knowing this LOL 😆) – I’ve been on a roll and actually finding some 5 star reads because of it. So I’m patting myself on the back for keep trying with audiobooks. I love them!

What are you currently reading?

Vesselless by. Cortney L. Winn – 2% no progress because I was working on finishing Alchemised

Top 5 Books That Are Song Titles

Song: If It Makes You Happy – Sheryl Crow

If It Makes You Happy by. Julie Olivia

My new next-door neighbor seems to have everything figured out. Small town golden boy? Check. Single dad extraordinaire? Check. Hot baker forearms? I didn’t notice them, I swear.

I, on the other hand, don’t–at all–have anything figured out.

Trust me, I didn’t think taking over my mom’s dream bed and breakfast in Copper Run Vermont was going to be easy. It should be a good place to heal after my divorce. But apparently my scones belong in the garbage with my small talk skills. As pointed out by none other than Cliff.

Cliff is inescapable. He knows exactly what people need–always. His charm, the way he wears flannel, and even his pastries, make not wanting to be friends with Cliff and his daughters pretty hard.

Friends? I can make friends. That’s safe.

Except I’m leaving in three months to pass the inn off to my little sister and get the promotion in Seattle I’ve been working towards.

So ask me why I’m thinking about kissing my hot neighbor.

Song: Drive Me Crazy – Britney Spears

Drive Me Crazy by. Lizzy Dent

Sparks fly when an up-and-coming team principle and her new hot-shot driver—and former childhood crush—are forced to work together to save their careers and team in this deliciously winning Formula 1 romance.

Can they navigate the twists and turns of love without crashing and burning?

As one of the first female team principles in Formula 1, Chloe Coleman is determined to prove herself and transform her failing team from underdogs to champions. Nothing can ruin her strategy—except maybe the surprising new addition of a cocky, top-tier driver who’s lost his edge. And he just so happens to be her estranged childhood crush who still sends her heart racing.

Matt Warner needs a comeback. A former champion, he hasn’t won a race since the disastrous crash that landed his best friend and teammate in the hospital. If there’s a silver lining to this scandalous demotion, it’s his fierce and familiar new boss, Chloe. But as the competition heats up, so does an unexpected spark that turns dangerously and passionately hot. With the world watching and pressures of the season mounting, will their chemistry lead them to victory, or spin them out of control?

Song: Truly, Madly, Deeply – Savage Garden

Truly, Madly, Deeply by. Alexandra Bellefleur

Sparks fly when a lovelorn romance novelist and a divorce lawyer who has sworn off relationships agree to cohost a podcast series offering dating advice to viewers, in Truly, Madly, Deeply, the next steamy queer rom-com from Lambda Literary Award winner and national bestselling author Alexandria Bellefleur.

As a bestselling romance novelist, everyone thinks Truly Livingston is an expert on happily-ever-afters. She’s even signed on to record a podcast sharing relationship advice. Little do they know she feels like an imposter—her parents just announced they’re separating, she caught her fiancé cheating, and her entire view on love has been shaken to the core. Truly hopes the podcast will distract her… until she meets her cohost.

Her first impression of Colin McCory is…hot. But then he opens his extremely kissable mouth. Colin’s view on love just pisses Truly off, even if he does have an annoyingly attractive face. Bickering with a cynical divorce lawyer is the last thing she needs—so she walks out, with no plans to return.

A few days later, Truly is surprised when Colin tracks her down, asking for a fresh start. Truly can’t deny the little thrill she gets from Colin begging, so she reluctantly agrees. As they go from enemies to friends to something else entirely, Truly discovers they have more in common than she ever imagined, including their shared queerness. He’s a genuinely good guy—charming, sweet, and equally as unlucky in love as herself—and there’s something about Colin that drives Truly a little wild. When their attraction reaches a fever pitch, Truly is happy for the first time in years. Yet she can’t help but wonder… is Colin truly, madly, deeply in love with her? Or is it all too good to be true?

Song: With or Without You by. U2

With or Without You by. Eric Smith

All’s fair in love and (food truck) war.

Everyone knows Jordan Plazas and Cindy Ortiz hate each other.

According to many viral videos of their public shouting matches, the Plazas and Ortiz families have a well-known food truck rivalry. Jordan and Cindy have spent all of high school making cheesesteaks and slinging insults at each other across their shared Philadelphia street.

But the truth? They’re in love, and it’s all just an act for the tourists.

When the fake feud lands them a reality tv show pilot, Jordan and Cindy find themselves having to lie on a much bigger scale. Trapped between pursuing their dreams or their love, can they find a way to have their cheesesteak and eat it too?

Song: Cool for the Summer – Demi Lovato

Cool for the Summer by. Dahlia Adler

Lara’s had eyes for exactly one person throughout her three years of high school: Chase Harding. He’s tall, strong, sweet, a football star, and frankly, stupid hot. Oh, and he’s talking to her now. On purpose and everything. Maybe…flirting, even? No, wait, he’s definitely flirting, which is pretty much the sum of everything Lara’s wanted out of life.

Except she’s haunted by a memory. A memory of a confusing, romantic, strangely perfect summer spent with a girl named Jasmine. A memory that becomes a confusing, disorienting present when Jasmine herself walks through the front doors of the school to see Lara and Chase chatting it up in front of the lockers.

Lara has everything she ever wanted: a tight-knit group of friends, a job that borders on cool, and Chase, the boy of her literal dreams. But if she’s finally got the guy, why can’t she stop thinking about the girl?

Cool for the Summer is a story of self-discovery and new love. It’s about the things we want and the things we need. And it’s about the people who will let us be who we are.

How was your month?

Weekly Wrap Up | 11/2/25

Aloha friends!

Another week is over and here’s what happened:

+ What a week – daughter had a last minute costume change right before the day of her school Halloween parade. So I had to find stuff for that. We carved pumpkins and painted some. And we made some last minute Halloween decorations using my daughter’s artwork. She loves Dandy’s World on Roblox and constantly draws her own skins or versions of the characters on Procreate. I decided to print a few of them and stick them in the lawn.😅. It’s a mild kid horror game so I thought it was perfect for Halloween plus she was going as Dandy for trick or treating also.

My daughter didn’t draw the Gardenview sign but she drew the other characters. And that’s her in her Dandy mask that she made. 😅

+ Halloween day was so tiring! My daughter had a school parade which is always fun, but it gets hot in the sun. So for some reason that really made me tired, then I had to go to the store, then carve our extra pumpkin, then pick up the kids, feed them dinner and then get them ready for trick or treating. I stayed home this time to pass out candy and I really thought it would be packed because it was Friday but I think due to the high prices of everything and the government shutdown affecting people, my neighbors right next to me and across from me, who usually pass out candy each year…did not this time so I was like the lone house one a darkened section of the street – they also didn’t decorate. 😩 I still got a bunch of trick or treaters, mostly teens I’d say, so I was kind of sad knowing the little kids in the neighborhood have grown up – including mine! My son ran into friends and took off trick or treating with them for the first time. He had so much fun! My hubby took my daughter around the block. My son said some other blocks already had bowls without candy left and there I was with still a lot to give away. Sigh…I should have been giving kids handfuls but I didn’t in the beginning because I bought less candy this year due to it being expensive. And now I have a lot of candy in my house. 😅 I even gave a huge ziplock bag to my parents to take home to my nephews. Yesterday I was so tired and recovering from Halloween lol…but today I will be taking the decorations down.

+ It’s November and Tuesday is my birthday woohoo!

Aloha friends!

Another week is over and here’s what happened:

+ My daughter was sick in the beginning of the week and then my son didn’t have school on Wednesday. I’m just glad she’s better and this week is parent conference week so she gets short days at school for two weeks!

+ Halloween is on Friday – my daughter made her own mask, she’s Dandy from the Roblox game Dandy’s World. My son and hubby are characters from Demon Slayer (which they have been watching for the past few months – plus they went to the movie). ME? Halloween is always so HOT these days so I’m wearing a tank top and passing out candy. Usually I go around the block with my daughter but since they are all dressing up I told my hubby he can take the kiddos since I usually do it. 😅

October 24: Recapping Anticipated Reads

Prompts: With two months left in the year following October, let’s recap your anticipated releases so far. How have you fared with your most anticipated releases in 2025—have they mostly met with your expectations or have you been let down? Were you surprised by 2025 releases you weren’t anticipating but ended up being more enjoyable than expected? With two months left in the year following October, let’s recap your anticipated releases so far. How have you fared with your most anticipated releases in 2025—have they mostly met with your expectations or have you been let down?

I think yes – most of the my anticipated reads met my expectations except maybe Onyx Storm. I might borrow the audiobook though just to see if it can change my mind about it. 😅

Were you surprised by 2025 releases you weren’t anticipating but ended up being more enjoyable than expected?

Yes, so many books were surprisingly so enjoyable this year and I’m grateful for Netgalley for helping find books I wouldn’t have been aware of at all.

Are there any 2025 releases you’re still waiting on?

Only a few more anticipated reads for me left in 2025!

October Topics:

October 3: Authors Branching Out (Melanie @ Melanie’s Book Blog)

Prompts: How do you feel when an author you love does something new and not at all like their previous work? Do you still read all their books, or do you stop after a point? If they write in a new genre that you don’t read, do you read it for the author, or stop following every title the author releases (in the new genre)? What are some of your favourite books where the author veered away from their previous work quite drastically?

October 10: TBR Roulette

Prompts: What makes you keep a book on your TBR? Find a random number generator, put in the number of books on your TBR and roll 5 times! Note down the book each number corresponds to on your list (or just pick 5 books at random off your TBR) and tell us: what made you add the book to your shelf—was it a cover add? Does it have your favourite tropes? How long has it been on your TBR? If it has been on your TBR for a long time, do you still want to read it or have you lost interest?

October 17: Oh, the Horror (Snapdragon @ Snapdragon Alcove)

Prompts: Do you read horror? What do you think of when you hear the word horror? Are there any books you read that are not practically horror but have some horror element in them?

October 24: Recapping Anticipated Reads

My kiddo caught a cold, and I had to catch up on sleep because for 2 nights in a row I read past midnight lol. I don’t even know why, I just couldn’t sleep? 🤷🏻‍♀️. At least I got a lot of reading done – hopefully I don’t catch my daughter’s cold. She was home with me the past two days but she went to school today.

Vesselless by. Cortney L. Winn – 2%, actually saw this book on Allurial (a book box subscription), and was curious about it. I didn’t buy it but it’s on Kindle Unlimited so I’m trying it out. – 2%
