Weekly Wrap Up | 5/8/22 – Past Midnight Book Reviews & More

Aloha friends!

I managed to not finish any books this week 😅. I’ve been shopping for our upcoming family trip and I was doing a bunch of cooking or meal prep – trying to eat healthier – more salads and was trying to make my own salad dressing. I was trying recipes from Kat Can Cook on tiktok. I love all the salad dressings I’ve made and even my son wanted a salad. Like WHAT?! Now my daughter and hubby are against any veggies but I was so happy my son wanted try everything I was making. 😍🥰 I did make a pumpkin oatmeal chocolate chip cookie that my kids have been eating so at least my daughter likes pumpkin! She loves avocados and other fruits too but veggies is such a challenge. I worked out a bit more this week too and played Nintendo Switch Sports with my son which is so fun. My daughter gets mad when she loses but hopefully the more she watches us the more she’ll want to try even if she loses. Now my dog gets so scared when my son and I are playing – we are loud…and competitive. 🤣 Anyway, that was my week – it was chill on the reading and blogging front! I may be in a reading slump but I’m not gonna dwell on it lol.

Inventing Ana (Netflix) – what a story! Honestly, how she got her lawyer and that reporter and everyone wrapped around her finger….made me want to scream. But I laughed instead because it was so ridiculous how she pulled people in. Anyway, fascinating story!
Along for the Ride (Netflix) – I just remembered why I loved Sarah Dessen books, they are such good coming of age books. In this one, I love how Auden starts opening up and dealing with her parents’ behavior, plus Eli dealing with grief and coming back into the social scene again. And wow do kids still do food fights in school? LOL…because that was such a 90’s thing. There were a few food fights at my high school hence why I avoided eating in the cafeteria! 🤣 Fun times! I think the cast did so well! Auden’s new friends and her step-mom (Kate Bosworth looks amazing) are funny. Auden and Eli are adorable – how many dimples do these kids have between them – like seriously!
Dear Evan Hansen (HBO) – I never read the book, but heard so much about the broadway show and the music. So I saw it was on HBO and decided to watch it. WOW. Love the music, but the storyline made me wary – wasn’t sure if I was in the right mood for it. I had to wonder if I could handle watching it because I knew the fall out from Evan’s lies were going to be bad. And whew I lost it when Evan’s mom started singing. Heartbreaking and bittersweet story, but so brave and amazing. I did come out wishing I knew more about the real Connor.
