Books on My Fall 2023 To-Read List

It’s going to be a good season of reading!!🥰

Two Twisted Crowns by. Rachel Gillig is the sequel to The Shepherd King, one of my favorite reads last year.

Throne of the Fallen by. Kerri Maniscalco is an adult novel which I’m assuming this means the book will be spicy? I hope so!

A Study in Drowning by. Ava Reid sounds like the perfect, gothic, dark fall read!

Witch of Wild Things by. Raquel Vasquez Gilliland is a book I want to read because I loved her last book.

Artifacts of an Ex by Jennifer Chen has an intriguing title and cute cover.

Love in Winter Wonderland by. Abiola Bello looks like a cute holiday read!

I’m on the book tour for Plot Twist by. Erin La Rosa, so I’ll be getting to that one soon.

Didn’t See That Coming is an arc that I’m going to be reading soon. I like the color of the cover!

A Curse for True Love by. Stephanie Garber, is one of the most anticipated books this year I think. I hope it lives up to expectations!

I felt like we got lucky to get two books from this series in ONE year! Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros is probably the most anticipated books this year…at least to us Fourth Wing fans! lol

Have you read any of these books? Are any of these on your TBR? What’s on your TTT?

Favorite Character Relationships

I love Rosalind and Oliver in the Foul Heart Huntsman – they go through some tough times in the series but they are too funny and cute together.

Vanja and Emeric from Painted Devils are my favorite partners in crime against the supernatural! She’s snarky and he’s uptight and together they are perfect for one another.

Fizzy and Connor in The True Love Experiment make an amazing couple, but Fizzy and her best friend Jess? True Love indeed.

Tilly and Oliver in Tilly in Technicolor are the cutest couple.

Violet and Zaden from Fourth Wing are electric!

Patroclus and Achilles – every time I see Song of Achilles, my heart hurts for these two young men.

Marcus and Teriana from Gilded Serpent are so amazing and I’ve been waiting forever it feels to see what happens next in this series. 😭 I just want them to be alive and in love.

Iris and Roman in Divine Rivals are one of my new favorites.

Zahru and Kasta from The Sweetest Betrayal but also Zahru and her friends/found family.

Tara and Trevor from Exes & O’s are such a fun couple and one of my favorites this year!

Every time I do one of these that look for books that make me smile, or make me feel happy I look at all the books I read since I started my blog and realize I read some heavy books. Haha…I need more light-hearted, happy books that make me smile so I look forward to seeing your TTT!

Oh and honorable mentions because I have kids and love reading books to them – this one ALWAYS makes me and my daughter smile…

Fictional Crushes

Lazlo Strange because he’s so smart and love books and learning.

Faolan because he’s a sexy Fae. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Santiago – he’s surly and broody, but he can cook and he’s hot. 🍳

Marcus – enough said.

I’m team Grayson! I bet she ends up with Jameson though…sigh…does she? Don’t tell me. 🙁

Raidyn is a Paladin. A Paladin! He’s a knight and rides a gryphon. Be still my heart!

Why do I always like the bad boys? I definitely have a crush on Selwyn.

Jase is the most loyal of all men. Love him!

I love Reykin!

Kalen…😭❤️ ugh…I love him.

I’m definitely into the dark, brooding, strong kind of guy fictional crushes. 🤷🏻‍♀️❤️ Who are your crushes? ~ Yolanda

Favorite Places to Read

  1. In BED – I do most of my reading in bed because that’s when it’s quiet, the whole house is asleep and I can just read on my ipad.

2. The couch – if I start a book in daylight hours and can’t put it down, I’ll try and read on the couch with my kids trying to ask me a million questions and our dog trying to get me to play. Not the best place to read really.

3. At the dinner table – and just for like 10 minutes or something, especially if I have an arc to get through and a deadline. I can prop up my ipad and read on my kindle app so it works out.

4. Sometimes when I’m in a waiting room – like waiting for my kids at the dentist, or waiting to go get my mammogram. I don’t get very far in reading though. I am highly distracted in waiting rooms and scroll on my phone usually to past the time.

5. Very rarely – but sometimes it happens…I read outside.

And that’s all I have for this list – 5 places, not ten. What’s on your TTT? ~ Yolanda

Secondary/Minor Characters Who Deserve More Love | Top Ten Tuesday | 8/10/21

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Please check out her website for more TTT topics!

This week’s topic is:

Secondary/Minor Characters Who Deserve More Love

Vivi is one of my favorite secondary characters in House of Hollow. She’s just so badass with the way she looks, her bad girl swagger and she’s a bassist. Vivi is a good sister too. I love her!

Andy, who is Kate’s best friend is so much fun. I love how tight they were even though some challenges threatened their friendship. I like Andy’s bold personality.

Seryu the dragon is awesome – I don’t know how trustworthy he is yet and he has that mischievous personality. I know we will get to know him better in book two. I can’t wait!

I love Ash from the Savage Lands series. He always brings Brex and Warwick back into focus and he is not as high strung as they are. He brings some calm vibes to the high paced action, plus he’s a healer. I love him!

I love Kiera’s sister, Steph, in Slay. They had each other’s backs even when they got on each other’s nerves.

Speaking of sisters – Kitty is just the best. I love all of Lara Jean’s sisters but Kitty is just so funny.

I just read this book and hello, but yes, Linn is amazing. She is a secondary character that needs lots of love. I love her.

Another book I just finished is Forest of Souls and Saengo needs tons of love, poor girl. She was just being a good friend – I am curious to see what happens to her in the sequel.

This might be a strange pick but Minya stood out to me a lot because she was very angry and traumatized that it made her into the child she is – so vengeful. But I felt the pain of her memories and was hoping by the end something would break through for her to let go of her vengeance but it’s deep seated. That girl literally needs love…

Ellerie’s sisters both need love – seriously their parents had to leave them behind to basically fend for themselves. And at one point they were starving and wasting away living off whatever little they could barter and grow. But I’m gonna say Sadie the youngest needs some love, some good food and she needed to have that doll of hers burned. 😫

I felt like this was a challenging topic since I don’t re-read enough books these days to remember secondary characters. This time I went with recent books I had reviewed since there are much more fresh in my mind. What’s on your TTT? ~ Yolanda
