Content Warning:

+ This was a cute second chance romance story that is set in Hawaii, which appealed to me because it’s my home. Olive is on her way to Honolulu, to surprise her boyfriend Jack who is attending the University of Hawaii, thing is…he’s been ghosting her. She can’t get ahold of him and she’s suspicious as to why. And then coincidentally enough the person sitting next to her on the plane, is her ex-boyfriend Tyler, so that made for an interesting plane ride.

+ Olive is raised by a single mom who is always dating and trying to find the one. This gives Olive a lot of insecurities about guys and dating in general. She doesn’t want someone who isn’t responsible or planning their future like she is – she is a planner and Tyler was her opposite, he lived life to the fullest and didn’t have a plan.

+~ A lot happens in Hawaii, and Olive isn’t even there for a week, but she gets to see some parts of Oahu and gets to spend time with Tyler. They also get to really talk about what went wrong with them. But I kind of wished she was there a whole week, because the time spent with Tyler was way too fast. Also, I loved Tyler’s bestie, Delia – she was straight-up with Olive, which is what she needed, someone to tell her she was not being a good friend. Speaking of Tyler, he’s a great guy, he loves her, would do anything for her, it’s crazy how she let him go but I also get it because of her fears.

~ I sympathized with Olive’s fears but also, I was kind of annoyed at how she she jumped into a supposedly stable relationship with Jack even though she really loves Tyler. Things happens fast in this story – like she is having problems with Jack and then maybe falling again for Tyler. But the title of the book is appropriate for this story because Olive and Tyler’s relationship is really turbulent.

Final Thoughts:

Second chance romance isn’t usually my favorite of the romance tropes but I really enjoyed this one. Olive and Tyler are young and are prone to make mistakes and they do that in this story but I love how things come full circle with them and they eventually make things work.

Content Warning:

+ Kiki is going through a few things, her career is not where she wants it to be, her family is selling their restaurant, her friend is getting married, she just broke up with a boyfriend and now, her ex, Malakai is back in the picture. And it’s not hard to get away from him when their paths keep crossing, so the memories come up again and they are both remembering their past.

+ My favorite thing about this story is Kiki and her girlfriends and how much fun they seem to be having! They are so funny when they are hanging out together – made me think of me and my girlfriends. Kiki is Nigerian and I love the representation in this book.

+ Yes this is a romance, but on the other end, this story is about Kiki and her career as a podcaster that talks about music. I liked seeing her trying to figure things out about her career and though there is a lot of pop culture references in here like musical artists, I didn’t mind it because I like listen to some of these artists.

+ The second chance romance is full of regrets but the same desire they had for one another in the past. Kiki and Malakai’s relationship is filled with sexual tension.

~ Unfortunately I didn’t know this was book two in a series and so if I had read book one, I’d have met Kiki and Malakai then. I didn’t feel lost reading this book, but I did feel like I had missed something. I might have to go and read the first book.

~ The story comes in just under 500 pages, which I think is too long. And Malakai doesn’t appear right away.

Final Thoughts:

I wish I had known this was book two in a series, because maybe I would have enjoyed it a bit more but even without reading book one I enjoyed this book – especially the banter and fun between Kiki and her girlfriends. I thought the second chance romance had lots of tension, clearly these two never lost their sexual desire for one another, but relationships are more than just sex and I like how they eventually worked through some things and chose one another in the end. Overall, an entertaining story!

+ The narrators did such a good job with this audiobook, I was hooked!

+ I love how real this story is: a divorced couple who are still business partners and co-parenting, are around each other and start missing each other. There is a lot of trauma though and issues they have to work through but eventually they do.

+ Loved Yasmen’s friend group! They are relatable and reminded me of my friends.

+ I appreciate how mental health issues are a topic discussed throughout this book. Josiah didn’t look kindly about therapy until their son needs to go to a therapist. Yasmen is someone who couldn’t get out of her grief without therapy so I loved seeing Josiah breaking generational stigma about it.

~ I have a hard time with second chance romances, especially when there is so much trauma between two people. Yes, Yasmen and Josiah has so much desire for each other, sex is the only thing they are really good at together. Outside of that they had so much problems. There were times I was happy Yasmen and Josiah weren’t together and trying to move on. I didn’t like how Josiah looked down on her therapy, but I can see how he was hurt. But she was hurt too…she was grieving, she needed that therapy.

Final Thoughts:

This is a realistic second chance romance story with lots of trauma, problems, issues between two people who’s marriage has broken but they are fighting for a second chance with one another. I love how it explored themes of grief, loss, divorce, relationships, mental health issues and therapy. Overall, this was raw, heavy, but hopeful because I love that both Yasmen and Josiah open their eyes and see all of each other by the end. The main thing is they are willing to work on all their problems together this time around.

+ This is a second chance romance with a grumpy/sunshine trope but this time the woman is the grump, which I thought was fun. Eva Kitt is stuck and stagnant in her career goals, she hosts a show where she eats hot dogs while interviewing celebrities and that is far from her journalist dreams but she needs to make ends meet so she’s sticking it out. Until one drunken night she posts something that goes viral and basically changes her life, according to her, for the worse but in the end it was for the best.

+ Rylie Cooper is a famous podcaster and he’s the guy Eva blasted in a post that went viral. When both their jobs suggest they grab the opportunity of her viral success and put them together they come face to face again, and this time Rylie is trying his best to not lose her again. They agree to go on 6 dates for Rylie to win her back and she gets to critique the dates on his podcast. I thought it was interesting how Eva’s personality played out with the audience. Comments about Rylie was always about him being hot. Whereas Eva was hot but that didn’t matter – people said mean things about her because she came off as a bitch. I love Eva and her cynicism.

+ Eva is so spicy and Rylie is so sweet that the two of them together was fun. Eva comes off mean but it’s her armor. She’s had a lot of childhood experiences that made her feel invisible and unwanted. Rylie has his own issues too with grief and his sexuality, and when they finally get honest with one another, it’s a beautiful thing. The fact that he has the patience of a saint with Eva speaks volumes about how much he cares about her and I loved it. I loved their verbal banter and battles, the spicy scenes between them and just seeing them give love another chance.

~ Now I love Eva, but there were times I wanted her to drop the armor and just let Rylie hug her or something. But I totally relate to her also, I like armor. Still Rylie is so nice, even though he did show at times he did have limits, she did push his buttons a lot. She had to learn to accept affection and praise, and he was always there not judging her.

Final Thoughts:

I found this refreshing because of Eva – maybe I’m just reading too many female characters who are always the same but having her being the grump was fun. And I loved Rylie, who is the sunshine! I found both characters relatable and I loved how they faced their issues even if it was hard for both of them to admit some things. The banter and verbal battles was lots of fun, and the spicy scenes between just adds to it. I enjoyed this one!

Having read this after listening to The Tortured Poets Department was such an experience! I didn’t mean for that to happen by the way but that’s what happened. And so many songs were resonating with what was happening in this book and Easton is a tortured poet for sure! What a coincidence right?

Ellis has made it – she graduated from high school in San Diego, a town that isn’t home. Now she is invited back home to Indiana, for a 50th birthday party for the woman who practically raised her and the three boys she was close to when she lived with them. Dixon, and Tucker are like brothers to her but Easton, is something more. There are events that happen in the book leading up to the moment Ellis and Easton are separated which sets off a hard journey for them to get back together.

There is angst, mutual pining, and so many feelings that aren’t communicated between Ellis and Easton. Their love story is so sweet but heart wrenching because she’s the girl from the wrong side of the tracks and Easton is the boy with loving parents and an easy upbringing. They are together, then torn apart, then thank you for the happy-ending, brought back together. I almost thought it wasn’t going to happen though, it got frustrating, but eventually they broke through to one another. A lot of things had to happen, like Ellis really facing her demons and Easton being patient through it all and telling her how he feels. I was sort of rooting for them, but also rooting for them not to be a toxic kind of love.

I loved how Sandry (Easton’s mom) took Ellis in. I love how Tucker became her best friend. But I also love that people in her dysfunctional family loved her too and showed it, like Tenny, her cousin and her grandma. This story showed that families are complicated but there can be love there too. I appreciated the layers of this story.

My Final Thoughts:

I loved this book and I think this author is becoming a must-read author for me. I can’t wait to read more of her books!

Content Warning:

I’m sad I didn’t love this one and I think it’s because nothing about Alessandra or Dominic was intriguing to me even though when they appeared in the two previous books very briefly I was quite interested in their story.

It’s clear these two love each other very much and maybe the marriage in trouble trope just bored me. I get that Dominic worked too much and put his job first but he had issues from the past that made him want to achieve everything. Thing is I didn’t find him very interesting – his brother Roman was more intriguing! Alessandra was just okay too.

I actually loss interest 30% in and skimmed the rest or else I would have DNF’ed it. I just wish there was more drama and spark between them.

My Final Thoughts:

This one is my least favorite of the Kings of Sins series but I’m still going to read King of Sloth though.

Content Warning:

+ We are back in the XOXO world and I’m loving it. I loved XOXO, so I really needed to read ASAP – asap…haha okay lame joke. But I loved the characters and knowing this was Sori and Nathaniel – I had to have it. I love the insider look into the life of a K-pop idol and it’s even more interesting because Sori is giving up the chance to be an idol, so I liked how she was trying to find a new path in her life. I like that she eventually was brave enough to tell her parents what was important to her. That’s something relatable.

+ The XOXO boys are back but there isn’t too much of Jaewoo and Jenny. Which is only right because this isn’t their story. But I love this cast of characters! I thought it was interesting we got more of Sun though – is it because he’s such a grump that I am totally attracted to this XOXO member and want his story the most? I know there is going to be a good story for him but I guess I have to wait, I feel like his would be the last book in the series. I love how Sori is close to these boys because of their time in training to be an idol – she’s got a level-headedness about her that I like. I like how strong she is.

+ The romance is a second chance romance which isn’t my favorite trope. But I did love that Sori and Nathaniel had a second chance at it. I just felt bummed at the little things that kept them apart – well I thought that the issues were so minimal – but to a K-pop idol or trainee like the characters in this book, it’s BIG problems like dating, scandals (that don’t even seem scandalous), and other issues like that. I hated that the same issues that pulled them apart was threatening their love again. It’s a sweet romance though, Sori and Nathaniel are so comfortable with one another, I thought that was comforting – by the way, I need all of these books in this “series” to be a K-drama. It would be perfect!

~ I’m older so sometimes I find all this perfection in these stories a bit too much. The characters have some troubles here and there, but they are perfect – because they have to be for their idol statuses. They are gorgeous, they are talented, my goodness the pressures they put on themselves! It just goes to show how much sacrifice these trainees and idols have to make for their success.

My Thoughts:

If you like K-pop and you loved XOXO, you will love ASAP. If you like sweet, fluffy romance that makes your heart flutter, you will like this book. I’ll be looking forward to the next book in this series!

I was so excited to read Forget Me Not because I was seeing it every on blogs and I was seeing good things about it! Now that I’ve read it I can see why people loved it so much.

This one is a second chance romance and I love how we are introduced to Ama and Elliot then get peeks into their past. I like how the past scenes built with the tension going on between them in the present day. Also, I love a wedding planner kind of story because it reminds me so much of the movie, The Wedding Planner, which was such a cute rom-com! This story is obviously different from that, but I love the whole wedding planner thing.

And I really love Elliot as a florist! I don’t blame Ama for falling for this guy who is so knowledgeable about flowers and so talented with installations. Yes, he is Mr. Grumpy and she’s Miss Sunshine and I love how she got past his defenses. Their past story is so cute and the heartbreak was sad but I could totally understand both their point of views. I think it makes their second chance romance story even more sweeter! The sparks are there between them and never really went away. They do have some spicy scenes which just adds to their chemistry – but I love the little awkward scenes between them too – I had some laugh out loud moments.

There are a bunch of fun side characters too – the couple who is getting married, Hazel and Jackie area cute couple. And I love how yes, Ama’s mother has had 14 marriages so she’s had a multitude of ex step-siblings, some that she employs! I especially love Mar.

My Final Thoughts:

I love Ama and Elliott’s second chance romance. He’s grumpy, she’s sunshine and the sparks fly between them. I thought their love story was sweet and I love that there was a big wedding to plan while they tried to not bring up their past with one another. If you like wedding planner type of romance stories, you will definitely enjoy this one. I look forward to reading more from this author!
