They staged a romance, faked a breakup, and this time around, anything can happenโ€”even something real.

Thea Pappas has always been the storm in her own lifeโ€”fiery and unpredictableโ€”traits that led her and her younger sister, Addy, through a series of foster homes. But with Addy’s whirlwind engagement, Thea is determined to be the perfect maid of honor, even if she finds it odd that she hadn’t heard of the fiancรฉ until the ring was on Addy’s finger. She believes she can survive a week in the Blue Ridge Mountains with a group of strangers without causing any trouble.

But upon arrival, Thea realizes these aren’t strangers. Among the familiar faces is Owen Hayesโ€”the man who, three years ago, paid her to pretend to be his girlfriend at a family wedding. Now, he’s looking at her with the same panicked expression.

Owen’s life has always been about controlโ€”managing his mother’s matchmaking schemes, his family’s expectations, and the career path he never truly chose. Thea was his one rebellion, a beautiful lie that ended with a “heart-destroying” fake breakup. Now, with his younger brother’s wedding underway and his mother on the prowl, Owen begs Thea to reprise their roles. One week. Same fake breakup. No feelings.

But as old sparks reignite and the lines between pretense and reality blur, Thea and Owen will have to choose: carry on their greatest performance yet or admit the truthโ€”that it was never fake at all.

Content Warning: complicated family

+ I thought this was a fun second chance romance! Thea and Owen fake dated in the past when Owen needed a date and now her sister Addy is engaged to Owen’s brother Harrison. So now they have to fake their relationship again so that Owen’s mom doesn’t find out and get upset.

+ The best thing about this story was the theme of family. Thea and Addy had a hard childhood and went into foster care, so they have only one another. Thea is the older sister and is overprotective about Addy. Owen became the man in his family after his father died and he does everything for the family business and tries to keep everyone happy. Both Thea and Owen know the burden of taking care of family and trying to please them, which makes them bond. And like any family, there are complicated relationships. Owen’s family is large and fun but can also be a pain, it was funny to see their interactions.

+ The romance was sweet with some spice. Owen is someone always taking care of people so being with Thea makes him feel a bit more free. Whereas Thea feels safe and taken care of by Owen. I thought they were cute together and I thought it sucked that they had to hide their feelings because of Addy and Owen’s mom!

~ I didn’t like Addy, especially how she acted towards Thea and asking Thea to stay away from Owen so that nothing bad happens to ruin the wedding. But honestly the both of them had a lot to work through when it came to their sister relationship.

Final Thoughts:

This was a cute read and it was interesting to see what happens after you fake date and are caught in the lie. Thea and Owen were cute together and actually deserve some happiness with one another. I didn’t like Addy and Owen’s mom but the rest of Owen’s family was so much fun!

Settle in with a warm glass of cider and FALL in love beside the bonfire on a crisp autumn evening in this friends-to-lovers fake dating romance about a jilted romance bookstore owner and her handsome failed-writer best friend, from the romance superstar author of The Boston Bolts hockey series.

These old flames are ready to catch fire.

After a very public failed engagement, Penny Darling, proud owner of Bonfire and Bliss Books, is done with love. Sheโ€™d rather cozy up by the fire with a pumpkin spiced-anything and one of her book boyfriends than a real one any day.

So when her old high school best friend, author Jake โ€œMontyโ€ Montgomery, tells the town busybodies that heโ€™s her new boyfriend and volunteers them to co-host Hope Harborโ€™s famed Maple Festival, Penny is more than hesitant.

Until Monty admits the real reason he returned his latest book release failed and if he doesnโ€™t turn in something amazing soon, his career as an author is over. Convinced that Pennyโ€™s obsession with romance novels makes her an expert on the subject, Monty begs Penny to teach him how to be the perfect romantic hero so he can finally write one. In return, Pennyโ€™s โ€œboyfriendโ€ will put a stop to neighborsโ€™ pitying looks and matchmaking.

But as pretend kisses in the apple orchard turn into searing ones beneath the autumn moon, Penny begins to wonder if Monty could really love her, or if sheโ€™s destined for another broken heart.

Content Warning: grief, divorce

+ I know we are still in summer but with fall around the corner, I wanted to add some holiday romances to my reading pile. I love the book cover of this one, it screams FALL, and looked like a cozy romance so I requested but I was in for a big surprise. This cover looks sweet but the story was more spicy than I expected! It is set in a small town called Hope Harbor, and I do want to say I did not read book one, but picked this up anyway and I didn’t feel like I needed to read book one – I wasn’t feeling lost at anytime reading this. So I think it’s safe to say they are standalones in a romance series. But I adored the town and the community – I love the quirks of the characters. It definitely gave a cozy, safe, sweet vibe to the story! I thought it was funny that Penny as the owner of a bookstore was giving very interesting romance books to women in town, I love her, she knows her romance tropes and wasn’t afraid to share the knowledge.

+ Penny owns Bonfire and Bliss Bookstore and she’s a sweetheart. Monty is her friend who is back in town because he needs inspiration to write. He’s an author and his books haven’t been selling. Penny and Monty used to be close friends when they were younger but drifted apart when he moved to NYC. They still keep in contact but the moment he comes home, sparks fly. They decide to fake date, to help the community get off Penny’s back to date again after her failed engagement to her ex. And the fake dating would help spark Monty’s inspiration to write. Penny also challenged him to dig in deeper with his characters…so they are using their fake dating as inspiration.

+ Penny and Monty are flaming hot when their fake dating leads to some interesting ways to liven up his writing. He plays the role perfectly and gives Penny everything that she wants. And I went into this thinking I was getting some 2 chili pepper kind of spice, when oh no…I even learned something new in this one which I didn’t think was even possible with how much spicy books I’ve read over the years. ๐Ÿ˜… But I loved their relationship because these are two good people, Monty is the sweetest and clearly worships her, they were best friends at one point in their life, and so their scenes together showed the trust between them and I was happy for them in any way they got their pleasure. It was a fun time too! Also he wears glasses…I feel like I’ve been reading more MMC with glasses lately, which I adore.

+~ There is barely any conflict in this story. Monty deals with some personal stuff to do with his family, and it does affect him and Penny eventually but it’s not a huge third-act break-up. Just a situation that is fixed with an apology, and grand gesture, like I said, these two are so sweet on one another.

Final Thoughts:

This is perfect for fall if you are looking for a romance that is sweet yet very spicy. Very spicy in the sense that Penny makes a list of things she’s read about in romance books and wants to try and Monty helps her out with the list enthusiastically. ๐Ÿ˜… Though it was more spicy than I expected, I loved the small town setting and the quirky and funny people in the community of Hope Harbor. I thought the friends to lovers romance between Penny and Monty was heart-mealting and I was rooting for them all the way, spice and all! This was a fun read.

Some blood tastes like vengeance. Some blood tastes like grief. Some blood tastes like nothing at all.

Under an eternal night, the world has been ravaged by ten years of war between humans and vampires. Kyrene scrapes by as a bounty hunter, bearing a blessed sword from the goddess of justice. But in the wake of a devastating loss, Kyrene commits a crime that makes her a target for mortals and gods alike โ€“ and she is still desperate for vengeance.

Her only chance at survival โ€“ and revenge โ€“ is making a deal with her enemy, the silver-tongue vampire prince, Septimus, who offers her one final to slay the gods themselves.

Together, Kyrene and Septimus must hunt the ultimate marks, all while navigating a web of prophecies and curses. Septimus is calculating and mysterious, masking secrets bloodthirsty enough to consume them both. Yet, most dangerous of all, Kyrene finds an unexpected kinship in him.

But their growing attraction is deadly in a world where the only currency is blood. And Kyrene will stop at nothing to fulfill her ultimate to kill the goddess of vampires, even if it means sacrificing love for revenge.

Content Warning: violence, death, gore, grief

What can I say about another book in the Crowns of Nyaxia that has made me care about the characters, grips me with the story telling and then made me gasp at the end and now I NEED the next book. I can’t even believe the next book will be the last in the series. I have loved this series from book one and it has never disappointed me, which is absolutely amazing. So the thought of it coming to an end in the next book actually makes me sad.

I loved the storytelling which is a given with all the books in this series. The characters, Kyrene, the FMC is filled with rage, wields a godly sword just hacking away at enemies and Gods. She is the Vindica Ultis. There is violence, lots of blood and even sometimes gore. She has no fear, but has so much trauma and a secret that shocked me. Septimus, the Bloodborn cursed MMC, where’s white, smokes vanilla scented cigarillos to keep his curse at bay, has self-control (mostly), wears glasses and reads to Kyrene. What can I say but that I loved both of them, down to their raw, flawed state. Both are anti-heroes, Kyrene has the title and the sword, but she doesn’t have the desire to be the good hero everyone sees her to be. She doesn’t do emotional attachment, which made me hurt for her when she allows herself to feel grief. And Septimus, who wants the curse to end with him, to spare the rest of his family. Both want to kill the Gods for different reasons and they team up to try and carry out this goal.

The romance is slow burn and so good! The banter between Kyrene and was Septimus was great, she’s wild and he’s always in control so seeing her try to always make it lose it is so much fun. And that scene where he drinks her blood? Perfection.

So much of this story was devastating, and the ending is emotional with the twist leaving me needing the next book right away. I was rooting for Kyrene so, so hard. I wanted her and Septimus to achieve their goal and create the world they dreamed.

One thing I found fascinating and different was the machines! I was not expecting this story to have machinists and even a god who was made of parts. But I love how each book opens up the world in this series.

Quotes From the Book:

“What’s life without a few regrets?” – The Lion and the Deathless Dark by. Carissa Broadbent

“Monsters recognize monsters.” – The Lion and the Deathless Dark by. Carissa Broadbent

Final Thoughts:

I love this series and this book was everything I expected it to be. It opened the world of this series even more, it is violent, devastating and emotional. And the only regret I have is I wish I didn’t read it until the next book came out because now I have to wait so long, hopefully not too long! I’m also pretty sure I’m going to be so sad when this series ends because I have loved all the characters and the romance. I’m ready to see what happens to these Gods and if Kyrene and Septimus can take them down.

A delightfully wicked, fizzy debut romantasy–an enemies to lovers tale about a desperate mortal woman and a cursed fae prince

Maddox Sinclair has run out of options. No job means no health insurance โ€”a death sentence for a type one diabetic like herself. She flees to the forest to make a desperate deal with a dryad kill the Redwood King and be cured of the illness that threatens her life.

In the redwood treetops, Prince Castor, is cursed– anyone who loves him is doomed to die. Like Maddox, he has made an equally unwise pact with his brother, the Redwood get a mortal to fall in love with him by solstice and be free of his curse forever.

When Maddox mistakes Castor for the king, sparks fly and troubles ensue. Each must decide what is more importantโ€”survival and freedom, or the love they (kind of, almost) feel in their traitorous, vile hearts.

Darkly funny and brimming with magic, These Vile Hearts by Melody Robinette manages to be both wicked and warm, beguiling and movingโ€”a richly woven story of survival and fate.

Content Warning: drug use, drinking, violence, death

Maddox has nothing to lose, she’d aged out of getting Medicare for her Type 1 diabetes, her parents are dead and she bounced around in foster homes, her best friend/roommate is moving to another city and now she’s homeless. So she makes a pact with a dryad, the queen of the Myrtlewood – kill the Redwood King and she will be cured from her illness and live a comfortable, normal life.

Castor is the cursed Redwood Prince and he is miserable. People that love him, die. So he makes a pact with his brother, the king, make a mortal woman fall in love with him by the solstice and the curse will be broken.

I really found this fae story refreshing because of the dryads. I loved the world building and description of the woods, their magic and their heartwood. And the story was funny because of Maddox and her personality, she’s desperate and though she should be afraid, life has made her fearless. She will do anything to live. She is the total opposite of Castor, who is drowning in misery, drinking and smoking away his days and nights, and will do anything to break the curse. In that, they shared a common goal – doing whatever it takes. But Castor is a softie at heart, he has scary powers sure, but poor guy just wants to be loved.

I was hooked on the story, waiting to see if Maddox would fall in love with Castor (but she only had 2 weeks to do so), or would Maddox be able to kill the king? I could not put down the book. It at times gave me Moulin Rouge vibes and Romeo and Juliet.

It’s an enemies to lovers romance, and I love the build up between up. Though there is attraction and one closed door spice scene, both of them wronged the other so it complicates things between them. I’m not sure if there will be a sequel – it seems like the ending leaves it open for one and I would love to see if Maddox’s new fate will change their relationship.

Final Thoughts:

I had fun reading this one because of Maddox: she is brave, outspoken, and funny. I could not put it down and I found the world building about the dryads and their home so fascinating. It at least felt different from all the other fae books I’ve been reading. And I was definitely hooked on the possibility of Maddox either falling in love with Castor or killing the king. I enjoyed all the twists and turns in the story. I like how Maddox and Castor are both broken characters but with one another they found a little bit of comfort. I do hope there is a book two because I’d like to see more from this world.

Survivor. Rebel. Weapon.

Leina has spent a lifetime submitting, starving amid wheat fields reserved for the king, standing by while his men crush her loved ones. When soldiers come for her brother, her divine fury erupts in a bloody massacre.

She expects to be executed for her crimesโ€”her people have met bloody ends for far, far less. Instead, Ryot, a gods-blessed warrior born to privilege, delivers her to a military fortress renowned for its brutality.

There, a gift from a goddess drags Leina into a realm of war, where her survival depends on her ability to ride a winged horse.

As Ryot pushes her to master the power she never asked for, a battle rages within her heart. Each lesson, every touch, binds them tighterโ€”but love is a dangerous weakness in a world designed for war.

Soon, Leina must decide how much sheโ€™s willing to sacrifice to protect the family she has found โ€ฆ and the one she left behind. Because while her divine gift could save the kingdom, it could also shatter its very foundation.

With immersive lush writing, an unflinching heroine, and an inventive fantasy world,ย Kissed by the Godsย is the gripping fantasy debut you wonโ€™t want to miss.

Featuring iconic romance tropes:
He falls first
Forbidden romance
Found family
Trial by combat
She saves him
Spicy slow burn
Feminine rage

Content Warning: violence, death

I finally got to this book which I’ve been meaning to read for some time. I just knew it would be heavier world building so I needed to get into the right state of mind. Here are my thoughts:

+ Leina is filled with rage. Most of her family have been killed, her little brothers torn from her, life has not been easy and now the Gods want something from her? I would be pissed too! Her people in Selencia have been oppressed and no one knows, except the people in Aish apparently. Though a lot of this story is about Leina training to be the warrior the Gods want her to be, we get to see her weaknesses and strengths. She’s very stubborn but willing to train and learn to get better.

+ The found family trope in this story is so good! The secondary characters are great. Leina is ripped away from her own family and she is grieving many of them so having Ryot and his group basically adopt her was so cool to watch. Leina might be filled with rage but she did come from a big family and community that loved one another and I like how she easily fit in with the guys and also made friends with the few girls she’s met.

+~ I loved the action and the faravars (winged horses)! The battle scenes were great, but most of them do come at the end of the book. I did find that because the first half of this book was mostly Leina in training, it did move a bit slow and most of it was predictable because I’ve read a lot of stories like this. But I still appreciated the world building and learning about the Altors and vanguard. I got invested and cared about the characters, plus I’d like to see Leina reach her full potential. I’d also like to learn more about the magic.

+~ It’s a forbidden romance between master and student but I knew it would be doomed because I figured out one of the secrets a bit early. I do like Ryot for the most part, he seems like a good guy who cares about his people but again, we shall see what happens in book two after that ending. For the most part though, I enjoyed the romance and spice between them.

Quotes From the Book:

“Because if there’s one thing a baseborn serf knows, and knows well, it’s how to reap. Only, instead of wheat, I reap death.” – Kiss of the Gods by. Caty Rogan

Final Thoughts:

This is a great way to start a series with interesting world building and characters I started to care for. I think there is still a lot to learn about this world, especially when it comes to the magic and history of Selencia. The first part did move slowly because of the world building and Leina in constant training to be the warrior she is destined to be. And yes the story was predictable and I guessed a few of the secrets but I’m excited to see Leina grow even more. Plus it ends on quite a cliffhanger and I need to see what happens next with Leina, Ryot and their friends and family.

Their families rule New Yorkโ€™s high society. Their love could burn it to the ground. The first book in the internationally bestselling Westwell series.

Helena Weston has one goal when she returns to her glittering New York City life: clear her sisterโ€™s name. Two years ago, Valerie and her fiancรฉ, Adam Coldwell, were found dead after their champagne-soaked engagement partyโ€”and ever since, the powerful Coldwells have blamed Valerie and the Westons for the tragedy. Determined to uncover what really happened that night, Helena throws herself into the same ruthless circle that destroyed her sisterโ€™s reputationโ€ฆonly to find herself face-to-face with the one person she should hate the most.

Jessiah Coldwell has spent years trying to survive his brotherโ€™s deathโ€”and break free from the world that whispered while they buried him. When Helena Weston storms back into his orbit, he knows sheโ€™s dangerous. Sheโ€™s angry, impossible, and a walking reminder of everything his family lost. But sheโ€™s also the only one who sees him for who he isโ€”and who understands the pain heโ€™s been trying to outrun.

As the lines between loyalty and longing begin to blur, long-buried secrets rise to the surfaceโ€”threatening to destroy them both. But some fates you canโ€™t escape, and in a city where love and lies are two sides of the same coin, theyโ€™ll have to decide how much theyโ€™re willing to risk for the truthโ€”and for each other.

Content Warning: death, mention of drug use, grief, complicated parental relationships, violence, mention of kidnapping

+ This story gave me Romeo and Juliet vibes plus some Gossip Girl. Helena Weston is back in New York City, after the death of her older sister Valerie due to a supposed overdose, and her family’s reputation has taken a big hit. But she wants to find out the truth about the night her sister and her fiancรฉ, Adam, died. Jessiah, is the younger brother of Adam, and he hates the Weston family – blaming Valerie for his brother’s death. Helena hates Jessiah’s family for dragging Valerie’s name through the mud. So it’s very “two houses in Verona”, the feud between the two families is very Romeo and Juliet.

+~ I like how Helena and Jessiah both have depth to their. They both understand the pressures of belonging to families in high society with power. They have rules to follow, although Jessiah has a reputation for breaking them. Helena is more restricted because her parents threaten to send her back to England in order to control her. They are both experiencing grief. Now I would like to see them fight back against their parents a little more, especially Helena. There were some other interesting characters like Elijah, Jessiah’s youngest brother who has panic attacks. And I enjoyed Jessiah’s close friends – he seems to know some good people. I wish Helena had the same.

+ Because this is very Romeo and Juliet, it’s a forbidden romance. Two people who was taught to hate one another, meet and realize there is chemistry between them. Not only chemistry but they have shared grief, so they understand one another on levels other people cannot. But as with Romeo and Juliet, they cannot be together. Jessiah’s mom is doing everything she can to ruin Helena’s family for revenge. There is some spice, and I was definitely hoping there was a way they could be together.

+~ Helena is doing her best to find leads into her sister’s death. She wants to prove Valerie wasn’t the one who supplied the drugs that killed her and Adam, but this puts Helena in some dangerous situations. I also feel like once the romance really kicked in between Helena and Jessiah, the investigation was pushed to the side. So I did wish there was more to it because I too want to know if Valerie was innocent or not!

+~ There were some phrases I thought sounded strange when I read them but then I did some research and apparently this was a German publication that got translated. So that makes lots of sense!

Final Thoughts:

I thought this was a solid first book in a romance series that set the groundwork with the forbidden romance. The setting of high society New York City is always enticing and filled with power plays and drama. There is no lack of it here and I was really rooting for Helena and Jessiah to be able to be together. But we shall see what happens in book two after that ending. I hope there will be more leads about Valerie’s death.

The villain isnโ€™t supposed to be king.

I have a simple plan.
Finish Royal Elite School and get into my dream university.
One glance from the schoolโ€™s king blows my plan up in smoke.
One glance and he suffocates my air.
One glance and he issues his death sentence.
His first words spiral my life into irreparable chaos.
โ€œI will destroy you.โ€
Everything about Aiden King is black.
Black mind.
Black heart.
Black soul.
I shouldโ€™ve remained quiet and endured the time I have left.
I didnโ€™t.
I made the irrevocable mistake of provoking the king on his throne.
The devil in his hell.
And now, Iโ€™ll pay the price.
Being hated by Aiden King is dangerous.
But being wanted by him is lethal.

This book is part of a trilogy and not standalone. The entire trilogy is available.

Content Warning: violence, sexual assault, bullying, so much more – read the trigger warnings

I wanted to read something different and realized I never read a Rina Kent book so I requested it. Now I am not the biggest fan of bully romance, but did I read this in one sitting? Yes, probably because Aiden, the MMC is so unhinged, I had to see how bad he got. I couldn’t quite look away and wanted Elsa, the FMC, to build a backbone and stand up to Aiden, but of course, she would fall for him ~ but point blank this guy is just crazy. Again, read the trigger warnings because some of his behavior is just disgusting.

I think this story would have been more believable though, if the characters were older, even if they were just new adults in their early 20’s, but these characters are in high school students acting like they run the world (world being their elite high school) and I just wasn’t buying it. I say it’s New Adult because it’s spicy.

I did like some of Aiden’s friends because they tried to help Elsa – they weren’t as crazy as Aiden.

Final Thoughts:

This was not for me – Aiden needs to be locked up somewhere! I just couldn’t believe these were high school students, even if they were at an elite school. It was too dark for me, so if you are into very dark romance with all the trigger warnings – you might enjoy this one.

In the far future, one young woman finds herself torn between two lovesโ€”and two sides of a rebellion boiling under the surfaceโ€”in the first novel of a sweeping dystopian romance trilogy.

Centuries after a catastrophic world war nearly decimated the human population, a city arose from the ashes, ruled by an elusive and technologically advanced group called the Illum.

At twenty-seven, Emeline lives in limbo, wasting away her days in a job sorting ancient human art for destruction and waiting to be selected as a Mate for a procreation contract. Where others look forward to being chosen, Emeline has never felt like she fit into a society where a personโ€™s worth is determined by constantly monitored genes, health, and the ability to procreate. Sheโ€™s struggled to keep her discomfort secret, but when she is finally chosen, her Mate is revealed to be a member of the Illum named Collin, a man who seems to be harboring secrets of his own.

It is the first time an Illum has taken a Mate in decades, leaving Emelineโ€”and othersโ€”baffled as to why she was chosen. Soon, she is swept into the dangerous game of Courting, filled with ballgowns, lavish dinners, and watchful eyes, where one wrong move can mean elimination. While parts of this elite lifestyle are unexpectedly appealing, the more embroiled she becomes, the more she sees its dark underbellyโ€”and a rebellion rising in secret. Collin is confusing, both cold and protective, and worse, she finds herself drawn to the very last person she should be falling for: Hal, one of the resistance leaders.

As she draws closer to both Collin and Hal, the Illum exercise their power in increasingly brutal ways, forcing Emeline to question everythingโ€”most of all whether sheโ€™ll have to give up her heart and even her life to stop them.

Content Warning: violence

I have been wanting to read this book for awhile, but I read Beneath first which I absolutely loved, so I wasn’t sure what to expect with Conform since Beneath takes place 100 years before this book.

So 100 years after Beneath and the Illum is in control of the Elite and everyone else. The Illum runs everything and one of the things they are focused on is procreation. It’s got some Handmaid Tales vibes especially when it comes to procreation and the roles of women. Emeline is selected to be the Mate but not for an Elite, instead she’s chosen for an Illum which hasn’t happened in a very long time. But the salvation she thought she would attain by becoming a Mate is not what happens, instead she is trapped between power players with her life always at risk.

I had lukewarm feelings about Emeline, she’s been sheltered and taught all the rules she needs to follow to be a good Mate. So I understand why she is naive about a lot of things, but one of her strengths is her stubbornness. Unfortunately her stubbornness and naivety is a bad combination because her actions has messed things up for her and people she have started to care about. I did like her backstory, being Elite and given away by her family because she’s a Defect. Defects are chosen as mates to Elites to prevent inbreeding. I was rooting for Emeline to gain some leverage and power in this world among the Illum and Elites but she’s not quite there yet and makes the mistake of thinking she could stay a step ahead of the Illum. I honestly don’t know how she thought she could with all her lack of knowledge. So even though I didn’t totally love her character, I’m hoping she grows a lot more in book two.

My favorite character had to be Gregory, who is Emeline’s disgraced brother and is tortured by not being able to be with the one person he loves. Justice for Gregory! Collin, Emeline’s Mate is a mystery – I’ve been developing some theories about him but we’ll see if I’m right. As for Hal, he’s a rebel who falls for Emeline but again, I feel like there is more to him and this first book hasn’t given us a lot of depth to these characters yet.

And yes there is a love triangle, even though Emeline and Collin’s relationship is always so tense, she doesn’t deny that she is attracted to him. As for Hal, she knew him for one week…so…again, Emeline is sheltered and a guy started paying attention to her and she fell fast. I really just wanted to shake her sometimes. It’s one of those love triangles that made me tense because I didn’t want her getting caught but she’s so naive and aren’t used to the games being played.

Speaking of getting caught – my favorite thing about this book is the growing tension and it builds as the story goes on until the very end. I was so tense by the end of this book, there are twists and betrayal! The Illum is a powerful group, especially Collin but I feel like we need to know more about them. I would love more world-building and hope we get it in book two. This world and their rules for procreation and the things the women go through in this book and what their roles are reduced to is diabolical.

Quotes From the Book:

“When everyone above the surface believes everyone below is uncivilized and defective and you all believe everyone above is immoral and self-serving, who wins? How can anyone win when you all hate one another?” – Conform by. Ariel Sullivan

“There was no good or bad guy. There were no saviors, just varying shades of morally corrupt people with different lines in the sand.” – Conform by. Ariel Sullivan

Final Thoughts:

This is a solid start to this series, it definitely sets the stage for this fragile balance between the Illum and Elites, plus the rebellion that is threatening to burn all of it down. This world of the powerful and the powerless is filled with so much tension, the race to the end of the book was gripping and I couldn’t put it down. I don’t know how I feel about the love triangle because I think there is more to learn about Collin. Also, I would love to see more growth for Emeline and more world building. Emeline meant well, but she was too naive for her own good, I need more from her. I’m excited to see what happens in book two and am kind of excited that the author is writing two series at one time with Beneath and Conform.
