Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Please check out her website for more TTT topics!

This week’s topic is:
Petty Reasons You’ve DNF’d a Book
(Or reduced its rating. You don’t even have to say what the book was if you don’t want to!)
- Really don’t like the main character.
- Writing style is not it for me.
- Boring.
- I put it down meaning to come back to it but then I forget about it and don’t want to put any more effort in trying to read it.
- Abrupt ending (reduced rating).
- Pacing is off (reduced rating).
- Story is all over the place (reduce rating).
- Lacking chemistry between lovers/forced romance (reduce rating).
- Annoying main character (reduce rating).
- An annoying love interest (reduce rating).
Is that petty enough?? 😅

Haha, I don’t know if I’d consider these petty but maybe that means I’m petty with my reasoning too 😂 I didn’t have it on my list today but I really don’t like abrupt or open-ended endings so that would make me reduce my rating too, I think. Great list!
Thanks! Yeah I was like it isn’t quite petty but these are the only things I could think of, so at least I know I’m not that petty! lol
Abrupt and open endings are the WORST. I hate them and will always reduce my rating. haha. Great list!
Thanks!
They sound like pretty good reasons to me. 😉
Thanks!
Sometimes you just know right away if you are going to like a main character and often this can be a deal breaker. I picked up a romance some months ago and there was just something about the MC that I did not like. I knew she wouldn’t grow on me, so I put it down.
